Wradar, Oldenburg Stallion
Competing for Barbados

Day 3
Thursday, August 7

Arrived at the Equestrian Center today to find that the schedule had totally changed AGAIN! Show now running straight through and all the rides will be over by 1.00pm.  (I had to wonder how many people would arrive at 3.00pm in time to watch the second half which included home town favorite Ivonne Losos de Muniz). The vendors were arriving at lunch time to set up for the afternoon - just in time to watch everyone leave.
After the first eight rides of the day, Wradar was standing in 20th place - could there be a slight chance he would squeak through? Little did I know ...all the big guns were yet to go...
Pierre St. Jacques on Lucky Tiger put in a great ride for the US team for 69.35% putting him in first place so far. Cesar Parra's ride in torrential rain was also very good on Pik L for 69.5%. With 5 rides to go, the medals were all up for grabs. After Jan Ebeling's super ride for 70.4% moving up to first place, the US Team was finished with a total score of 206.55. Canada's last rider, Leslie Reid needed a 72.4% for Canada to win the team gold. Mexico (191.85), and Columbia (193) were definate contenders and if Ivonne Losos de Muniz could score high enough the Dominican Republic was also in with a chance. Ivonne was next to go, and she put in a beautiful ride on her elegant Dutch Warmblood, Inatana Las Marismas and scored 71.8%. The crowd went wild!  This now put the Dominican Republic in third place with 194.85 with Mexico still to ride. Antonio Rivera for Mexico needed to score a 63% for the bronze.  He scored 63.4%! What a nail biter. So, with the Bronze Medal safely on Mexico's hands, it was now the gold and silver up for grabs. Leslie Reid, the last rider of the day, put in a terrific ride on Mark.  We waited on the edge of our seats for score....which was finally announced as 72.15%. Close, but not quite close enough. The finals official scores, averaged, are:

Gold    USA     68.85
Silver   Canada 68.766
Bronze Mexico 65.1
4th       Dominican Republic 64.95
5th       Columbia 64.33

Roberta Foster and her Conquistador, the fourth team member to ride for Barbados, scored a 61.35% for 21st place and did qualify for the Intermediare I. Roberta rode as an individual for Barbados in the 1999 PanAm Games.  Well done Roberta!

                                                                                              Day 4......

Still haven't managed to find Eduardo Muniz, husband of Yvonne Muniz, who is competing for Dominican Republic. I really wanted to thank him for his most informative emails about where to stay, how to get around, and for personally delivering Wradar from the airport to the showgrounds. I did find friends of his and gave him the DVD's Kyra Beth Houston of Dressage Unlimited had sent for him. Eduardo, I hope they found their way to you.
